I normally do not plan to take photos. If I am in shooting mood, I take my camera with me. I cannot predict or plan the types of photos that I am interested to take. When I go out, I take the camera and a lens cleaner, sometime an additional lens and a backup battery. I want to be able to carry my camera all the time while walking, so by definition I cannot travel heavy.

I use the second one if I want to stay invisible and portable.

Software

Are there many options out there? probably yes. I use Adobe Lightroom for almost the whole process cycle. I have it to catalog all my photos on physical hard drive, import recently taken photos from camera, post process and retouching, and various exports.
